Highland Forest Wedding | Ben & Melissa - HHawkinsPhotography
Old Paper Background

It was a huge honor  for me to be able to photograph a wedding for a good friend of mine like Melissa & Ben.  I grew up all of my high school years with Melissa and we shared some great memories and experiences together.  Experiences such as traveling to Mozambique together and being forgotten for a few hours in a remote village.  Clearly we made it out just fine and today I'm excited to be able to share pictures of her and Ben's wedding!

Both the Wedding Ceremony and Reception were held at Highland Forest's Skyline Lodge!

With all the beautiful nature around and stunning overlook of valley below, Highland Forest is the place to get married if you're looking rustic and chic all in one.

I just love the chalk board signs the Ring bearers carried!

The weather was gorgeous and so the ceremony was held out on the porch that overlooks the valley!

The joy... one of my very favorites

The reception, and of course, the First Dance were held inside Skyline Lodge.

One of the most unique (and coolest things, in my opinion) about Ben & Melissa's wedding was the Contra Dancing!  Now if you're like me you're thinking, "What is that?"

Contra Dancing is a type of  group folk  dance, similar to square dancing except in lines and with couples.  It originated in the Appalachian Region of the country with influences from English, Scottish, and French Dancing from the 17th century.

To the untrained ear, you might think you're hearing Irish music with a bit of a country twang.  There were a handful of Appalachian Instruments as well as a lady to "call out" the next move!

All in all, everyone was having a blast... it was a great time for young and old.

The last dance...

Always sunset pictures if we can!

And a grand exit to end the evening!

I am so happy for Melissa and Ben and wish them the very best as they begin their married life together!!  Congratulations you two!
